EM-1 Help

EM Around The Household

Here are some great suggestions for household uses for EM.

Kitchen:

A small squirt bottle filled with straight EM is handy to keep by the kitchen sink. It is then convenient, to add to garbage disposal or to pour the down the sink drain to reduce odours. You can add a few drops to your kitchen sponge along with water to keep it smelling fresh.

Bathroom:

Spray straight EM on bathroom sinks, and tubs and wipe clean.
A few drops in the toilet bowl will keep it smelling fresh.

Laundry:

One teaspoon can be added to a load of white/light coloured laundry as the washing machine fills with water (These microbes like to eat some fabric dyes so coloured articles may fade.) If using EM you only need to use 1/3 the usual amount of detergent.
Use: 2 Tablespoon of EM to 10 litres of room temperature water for mopping ceramic tile or vinyl floors. No detergent is needed.

General Cleaning:

Mix 1 teaspoon EM to 500 ml water and spray or wipe on tile, porcelain, and formica surfaces. Let it stand on wood or plastic cutting boards, then rinse. Spray on wood floors or furniture and wipe immediately. This mixture must be used within three days. Mist in pets water or outdoor birdbaths…beneficial microbes can foster better health and digestion.

Pets - Cats and Dogs:

Spray EM as a fine mist onto pets sleeping quarters to control odours. Or in areas where cats and dogs have toileted.
Repeat infected areas again within 2-3 days or until smell is controlled.

Post Harvest Management Plan - Horticulture

Late Summer/Autumn:

  1. Apply 20l/ha expanded EM over crop debris and incorporate into the soil immediately following application.
EM is best applied just before expected or during rainfall-spray in as much water as is practical, around 400l/ha
  2. Cultivate soil and plant a green manure crop not less than 14 days after application of EM

Spring:

  1. When green crop is mature, cut and let wilt for a day or so and then spray 20l/ha expanded EM over the wilted crop. Incorporate the green manure into the soil as soon as possible following the EM application. [Spray as for 1. Ie 400l/ha]
  2. Sow or transplant crop into cultivated soil not less than 14 days following EM application.
  3. Apply EM at a dilution of no less than 1:200 over crop foliage when at early 4-5 leaf stage to promote growth.
  4. Apply EM a dilution of no less than1: 200 at critical growth stages to promote flowering and fruit set. (If and when disease pressure is high use 1:100 onto plant foliage.)

Note:

EM works best in association with organic matter and will assist the release of soil nutrients.

EM is efficient at releasing soil nitrogen so the use of a leguminous green crop will be of advantage as a green cover crop over the winter months.

EM is not a substitute for your normal fertiliser programme and you need to maintain other nutrients as per soil test results However EM will make your fertiliser inputs much more efficient and up to 50% reduction in fertiliser inputs can be expected in the medium term.
